World Environmental Day: Mimiko Tasks Residents On Cleanliness

The Ondo State government has harped on the need for residents to imbibe personal hygiene by continually cleaning their environment to avoid dirty. Governor Olusegun Mimiko, gave the charge on Thursday, in Akure, the State capital, shortly after a road show to commemorate this year’s World environment day. Mimiko said that maintaining personal hygiene would also help protect the people from unwanted sickness and disease. The theme for this year’s World environment day is: “Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Consume with Care”. Mimiko, who maintained that ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ also urged residents to ensure the protection of their environment for sustainable growth? Daily Times Correspondent reported that Governor Mimiko, joined by his deputy, Lasisi Oluboyo, in a 5-kilometre trek and road show, personally Swept some dirties in the street of Akure, to show how best residents can clean their environment to avoid weedy and dirty surroundings. He disclosed that the road show was to help sensitised residents in the State and the general public at large, on the need to continually keep their environment and surroundings clean at all times. Sola Ebiseni, the State Commissioner for the Environment, said the State through his ministry joined the rest of the World to celebrate the day by creating environmental awareness campaign. Ebiseni revealed that the ministry realised the Inter-disciplinary nature of the environment and aimed to encourage friendly attitudes among residents towards their environment. Mrs. Boladele Akinyanmi, Director Pollution Control, Ministry of Environment, said that government would soon go tough with owners of weedy and dirty environment in the State.
