Nigerian Army Appoints New Commander to Head Boko Haram Fight

The Defence Headquarters on Friday announced a new commander to be in charge of the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.

According to the director of Defence Information, Rabe Abubakar, the Operation Lafiya Dole (which is the forefront battle against the insurgents) has been restructured, Premium Times reports.

Major General Hassan Umoru has been appointed as the new commander in charge of the battle.

Umoru who was the general officer commanding, 3 Division Nigerian Army, is succeeding Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar, a Major General, who was appointed four months ago.

The Defence Headquarters however did not state why Abubakar was removed.

Also appointed is the Deputy Theatre Commander who is Major General Lucky Irabor.
