Gunmen kill police man accompanying election result in ogun state

Tension erupted in Ogun Sate as a Police officer accompanying the election result from Ipokia to Ilaro Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre  was shoot dead by some unidentified gunmen.

The gunmen were said to have laid an ambush at Eredo and began shooting sporadically at the vehicle conveying the election results and other materials and in the process killed the police officer.

The police officer identified to be Sunday Idoko was killed in Eredo area of Yewa South Local Government area of the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Wale Abase, to commence investigation into the matter.

Abimbola stated that the hoodlums would be brought to book, however, assured that the election results were intact and it has been moved to Oronna Hall in Ilaro.

“The unfortunate incident happened on Sunday evening when he was escorting election results to Ilaro. The hoodlums laid ambush on the vehicle conveying the results.

“We are on the trail of the hoodlums and we are going to arrest them,” he added.
