Another PDP lawmaker defects to APC

A member of the House of Representatives, Dickson Tarkighir, has defected from PDP just few months after joining the party

In the letter, Terkighir said politics is local and that he had consulted with the constituents before the decision was reached Emerging reports have claimed that Dickson Terkighir, a member representing Makurdi/Guma federal constituency of Benue, on Tuesday, January 22, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Terkighir made the announcement in a letter addressed to the house and was read by the deputy speaker, RYussuf Lassun, APC-Odiniya, at the plenary. The announcement delighted members of the APC on the floor of the house as they screamed party slogans and waved eight fingers in the air.

In the letter, Terkighir said that politics was local and that he had consulted with the constituents before the decision was reached.

It could be recalled that Tarkighir contested for the house of reps ticket in the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries. He, however, lost to out with 80 votes to Bem Mzondu who scored 102 votes.

The court confirmed Sadiq Obanoyen as the authentic PDP candidate having won the party’s primary election.

The reports further claimed that the court ruled that it was wrong for the national leadership of the PDP not to submit Obanoyen’s name to INEC as the party’s flag bearer.
