A member of the House of Representatives Bede Eke has noted that an Igbo person should replace President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Eke represents Mbaise/Ngor-Okpalla Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The lawmaker said this recently in Abuja while chatting with the press, noting that in the spirit of oneness, equity and fair play, the presidency should be zoned to the South East.
According to him, if the South East gets the presidency in 2023, the clamour for the Republic of Biafra under whatever guise by the people of the region will die down.
“On the continued agitations for South-East presidency in 2023, yes, we want it,” he said.
“I am of the opinion that we should be given a chance. Talk about the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Aguyi Ironsi; we have not been given a chance since the independence.
“We talk about three geopolitical zones in the country; Hausa, Yoruba have had their chances but what about the Igbo?
“Even if only the marginalisation we are crying, why don’t you give it to us?
“If we have the slot of being the president of Nigeria, that will go a long way. If you can give us the presidency of Nigeria, it will address this problem of people clamouring for Biafra.
“We are all equal before God, no region or zone is superior to one another, we should be given a sense of belonging in the scheme of things, we have qualified materials to occupy that position.”
Tinubu Go To Go
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lanre Razak has said Bola Tinubu is fit to replace President Buhari in 2023.
Buhari won re-election for a second term of four years during the 2019 elections.
He is expected to hand over to another president from southern Nigeria as the north (Buhari is from Katsina State in north-west Nigeria) has had its eight-year turn under the unwritten power rotation policy in the country.
Also, there have been reports that Tinubu who is a former Lagos State Governor will take over from Buhari.
While speaking about the issue, Razak noted that Tinubu was instrumental to Buhari’s win in the 2019 election.
According to him, the APC needs to maintain its stand on the rotation of power, adding that Tinubu is equal to the task of leading Nigerians.
“Nigerians do not need to look far to know that the APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, is the man that the presidential cap fits for the next election,” he said, weekend.
“He is eminently qualified to succeed President, Muhammadu Buhari and build on the foundation the latter is currently building.
“Tinubu is an achiever and his democratic credentials, vis a vis his leading role in forming a coalition that shoved aside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) misrule has made it crystal clear that with him in the saddle in 2023, Nigeria would be better for it.”
