2019 Election: Uche Jombo blast Governors

Uche jombo Rodriguez

Nollywood actress and film director, Uche Jombo Rodriguez  recently released a compilation message on her social media page to condemn the act of former governors  in Nigeria using the senatorial seat as their retirement plan.

We need to find a way to put this into the Nigerian Constitution, Ex Governors can not run for senate, Seriously, it is like the retirement plan for every governor”she agitated.

It is no longer a news that most present and past governors in Nigeria after their office still find solace in another political seat in order to retain their status in the society. It has been a normal norms among our political cabers that whenever they are no longer holding a position in the political sphere they persuade or lobby to gain that acceptance.

Some of them go as far as retaining the position for life, by moving from one seat to the other unless they are forcefully removed through the help of the military, are even ready to stay till they die in office. Like in the case of former Zimbabwe president – Robert Mugabe and many others.

Getting forms to apply for these positions, run into millions of naira that only the well to do and the politicians looting the country’s funds  that can provide for the fee, because an average Nigerian youth cannot afford such, thereby making the wealth circulate around them and their families as if it is a monarchical system of government.

Thank God  for the bill that is passed to law that gives our youth the opportunity to actively participate in electoral processes and run for either of the political seat  under various parties rather than make the country look like a two party system of government as opposed to the multi party system in the constitution.

So that we will not be given abstract information these are some of the governors that keep moving around the political seats as if it is their inheritance. The governor of Oyo state- Abiola Ajimobi, under the APC contested for the senatorial seat and lost to PDP’s Kola Balogun in the just concluded election held on Saturday.

“Former governor of Lagos state, Babajide Fashola, currently the Federal Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state had also run for senate for solid8years under the people democratic party and presently ogun state governor under All progressive party and he had also won another senatorial seat just imagine.

Also Adams Oshiomhole current national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) political party also an ex governor of Edo state also run for the same post.

These and many more are examples of leaders of our great country who after holding one position or the other for 8 or 4 years still have a way of remaining in political positions”.
